Mind your Businesses When asked what a favorite restaurant or cafà © is, often the answer is a unique local business. It’s easy to embrace local character. Local businesses do more than just increase home town pride though; they play an important role in stabilizing the community’s economy. Arizona revenue structure experiences extreme variances in comparison to the national general economy. Marshall Vest, an economic research director at the University of Arizona, found that â€Å"Arizona is second only to Nevada for economic volatility† (Vest). Business structure plays a big part in revenue stability. Local businesses in Arizona communities need more support, and there are many ways to support these independent local businesses in the community. The increase of â€Å"Big-Box† chain stores such as large chain grocery stores, mega warehouses and value marts, play a big role in revenue fluctuation and diminished qualities among communities. David Boyle of the New Economics Foundation said â€Å"Many economies are languishing not because too little cash comes in, but as a result of what happens to that money† (Boyle). The money â€Å"Big-Box† stores receive, as Boyle is talking about, is sent out of the community to their corporate offices. Boyle went on to explain more money stays in the community when people buy locally. As a result of buying locally the community does better economically.
